2010 Genre Book Challenge *Updated with Rules*

First off, let me just say how weird it is to type 2010. It just looks and feels futuristic to me. Am I the only one? Anyway...drum roll please...I am hosting my own reading challenge!

I often get stuck in a rut of reading out of the same genre. Soooo....I started this challenge to encourage me to break out of the same ol' same ol'. Anyone care to join me?

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Action/Adventure
African American Literature
Autobiography/Biography
Christian Classics
Comedy/Comics
Court Room Drama/Lawyers
Detective/Spy
Family Drama
Fan Fiction (e.g. Star Trek)
Fantasy
GLBT
Graphic Novels
Historical
Horror
Indigenous People
Local History
Literary
Medical/Forensic
Mystery
Picture Books
Poetry
Police
Romance
Romantic Comedy
Science
Science Fiction
Sports
Suspense
Thriller
War
Western

I have heard concern over what to do with this challenge. It is ment to be as flexible as you wish. You can set your own goals. I'm personally shooting for 15-20.

I should have known however that there are those of us that find comfort in guidelines. So in the name of adding a bit of spice into it how about some extra things you can do and interact with the challenge?

Sign up below and come and join my group at bookblogs. I added 2 Amazon gift card giveaways

The fine print:
Have fun and enjoy!

So....what's the challenge? Are you going to read one book in each of those genres? Are you picking a genre and reading X number of books? Are you making a list ahead of time, How does this work?

I didn't want to have many rules, just trying to encourage reading.

I did add a group here to set some goals and have a little more participation. There are 2 gift cards up for grabs too!

Hi there! Thanks for the follow. You mentioned the mystery genre and asked for 1 good mystery. Well, because there are so many "types" of mystery I am going to break into 4 types I enjoy.

Thriller:
See Jane Run by Joy Fielding

Suspense:
Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger

Mystery:
In the Woods by Tana French

Cozy:
Eggs in Purgatory by Laura Childs

All very good, very strong but very different types of mysteries. I lean more towards the darker, more involved mystery naturally but I really like my cozies!

Hope this helps!
Take care,
michelle

I hear ya on the chick lit and I'm a chick...well, you know what I mean. But sci-fi is definately one of my favs.

I don't think I could read a book about war it's self. But often I read books that have war in it. However I would like to read "All is Quiet on the Western Front."

Happy Reading!
Heather

I'm in, I like that there are no real rules :-) I think you should add Memoirs to the list as this is something new I definitely am going to try.
